Credit card withdrawals to be delayed between December 24 – 29 & December 31 – January 4

December 15, 2009

Here are the latest news from AlertPay:

Hi everyone,

We just wanted to let you all know in advance that credit card withdrawal services will not be available on the following dates:

• December 24 – 29, 2009
• December 31, 2009 – January 4, 2010

This will not affect credit card spending in any way.

Our credit card processing partners are closing their offices for the holidays, so if you initiate a withdrawal on any of those days, it will be delayed.

We recommend initiating any credit card withdrawals before these dates so that you receive your credit within the usual time frame. You may also use any of our other equally convenient withdrawal options, which will still be available.

Thank you for your understanding.

Create hacker-proof passwords

December 7, 2009

Here are the latest news from AlertPay:

Passwords - there’s no denying their importance. They are like the keys to your home, little objects that mean the difference between security and vulnerability. Like all keys, passwords can be stolen, copied and lost. But they can also be protected.

This is not meant to scare you, but to mobilize you and give you the tools you need to be as safe as possible when dabbling in the online world. After all, where money and personal information is concerned, there’s no such thing as too much security.

Microsoft’s Password Checker is just such a tool! With this tool, you’ll get tips on how to create a strong password as well as the ability to test drive a password to see if it is strong enough to withstand cracking.

Here are just a few tips to help you create a strong password that will protect your personal details and your identity:

  • Create a password with 14 or more characters. The rule of thumb is the longer your password is, the harder it is to crack.
  • Use a variety of lower and upper case letters, numbers and symbols. Again, the harder your password will be to guess.
  • Avoid words you can find in a dictionary. Make up a word, use the first letters of a sentence you can remember, be creative, just don’t be predictable.
  • Keep them secret. Sharing them can mean the end of your privacy so keep your passwords to yourself.

Tips for safe online shopping during the holiday season

December 5, 2009

Here are the latest news from AlertPay:

Hi folks,

This the season to shop, shop and shop some more, both in stores and online. Since so many people are spending lots of money for the holidays, fraudsters are laughing all the way to the bank… or where ever they hide their ill-gotten loot.

We at AlertPay hear sad stories everyday of how innocent people get duped by criminals who will stoop to any level to make a buck. In response, we would like to offer some tips that will help protect you when shopping online during the holidays:

Be aware of “phishing”: Phishing is when someone attempts to procure highly sensitive information by phone or email under the guise of a reputable company. Banks, credit card issuers, government agencies, etc… will never ask for this information by email.

Make your online payments through a secure payment processor, like AlertPay: With AlertPay, your information is always safe! You can make online payments without the risk of exposing sensitive personal information.

Look for “https” in the address bar: This is one assurance that the website is secure. With some browsers, the address bar may turn green and/or display a lock icon.

Use different passwords for different sites: Using the same password everywhere increases your chances of encountering fraud and identity theft.

Keep your anti-virus up-to-date: Install the latest software and browser updates, block your wireless networks, use a firewall and regularly scan for viruses.

You can find even more online safety tips through the following links:

Shop safely, have fun and be vigilant. Happy Holidays!
